A Rumble of Vines
Redondo Beach, California
June 8, 2016
On a side alleyway leading from another back street just east of Catalina Avenue I found a tall concrete (or perhaps stone) wall wrapped with thick grey limbs adorned here and there with leaves of a flickering fire red. I couldn’t decide whether these were vines or the carnivorous limbs of some strange tree-like creature. Hence I kept my distance. They ways in which the vines appeared to crawl over the wall and moved sideways across its top were simply fascinating. So here is a brief study in botanical intelligence (or the slow ineluctable exploration of an alien infestation).
