December Sunset over Biscayne Bay

Normandy Isle,

Miami Beach,

December 6, 2012

I’ve been back in Southern California for a little over two years. I think I’d like to take some time to explore my life in the beach communities of south Florida (Delray, Deerfield, and north Miami Beach). This is the first in a series of images from south Florida, in particular, in and around Miami Beach where I once lived on a small island (Normandy Isle) in Biscayne Bay. These are mostly pictorial journal entries with a minimum of description.

Here is a view from my condominium, looking west toward midtown Miami and, a mile or two behind this sliver of stores and restaurants, the vast grass and fresh water prairies of the Everglades. An hour or so earlier, a late afternoon thunderstorm had roared through, leaving the seawall, palms, and ground tiles wet and slick. The sun is almost gone, and he sky is a dark translucent blue behind a river of pearl white clouds, the tropospheric detritus of the now exhausted thunderstorm.
